Relationships in FileMaker 5.5

Featured Replies

I hope you guys can help me with this. I have two databases, one is the master and the other is an archive database. I need to pull information from the archive database into the master database, however I am working in FileMaker 5.5 I know it is a pretty old system but this is what I am working with. What is the easiest way to link these two databases together?

If the two files contain the same type of data, it's generally much easier to manage if all the records are in one file. You can use a Status field to distinguish between those that are Active and those that are not, and have your Finds and relationships filtered by that Status.

The possible reason you might use archiving to another file is in FM5/6 when you start having performance problems due to the number of records. This seems to happen around the 200,000-300,000 record mark. But in this case, I'd recommend either purging the records that have been inactive for more than a year (or whatever), or upgrading to FM8.5 so that file size and record count won't be an issue.

Thanks for the help. I was able to create a small report that worked based on the relationship I set up.

Thanks again for the suggestion.
