We have a database of donors. We need to send them letters of various sorts and want to use an electronic signature so we don't have to sign every letter. We have various letters, each in its own layout.

Each layout has merge fields, text (the body of the letter), and a place for the signature. I have succeeded in inserting the signature onto the layout but because each letter in a given found set has a different number of lines of merged data, etc, the signature is sometimes in the correct place, sometimes too high, sometimes too low. Is there a way to make the signature stay in place depending on where the text immediately above and below it appear on the page?

I have tried the sliding/printing function to no avail.

Try putting the signature into a global container field and putting that onto the layout, then apply sliding properties.
