Golden Mean Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I don't know if I'm pushing the capabilities of FileMaker but it appears so. Is there a limit the number of layouts you can create? I'm trying to simply copy and paste components in different layouts and the spinning beachball is spinning for a good 30 seconds each time (sometimes longer). I've tried cranking the memory allotment way up (256MB). Performance is only slightly better in 8.5 vs. 8.0 I have a ton of relationships and over 170 layouts. I just tried to copy a simple box, nothing more, and the beachball just sits there spinning away. I checked the performance stats in Activity Viewer (Mac OS X) and it is showing a huge amount of processor activity. What the hell is it doing? Anybody know? Thanks for your consideration. Will
Golden Mean Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 Holy crap. (Excuse my French) I think I solved it. Do you know the trick for placing objects on the layouts by putting a 1x1 invisible square in the upper left corner? This allows consistent placement from layout to layout. I had NO idea that this would slow it down so much but with all the copying and copying of this I think I had 10 or twenty of these piled up on top of each other (which it was managing as separate layers) As soon as I deleted them it worked fine and performance came back to FULL speed. Wow! Hopefully this is helpful to everyone in the developer community! Peace, Will
Ender Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I haven't seen this problem. Can you provide your system specs?
