I don't know if I'm pushing the capabilities of FileMaker but it appears so. Is there a limit the number of layouts you can create?

I'm trying to simply copy and paste components in different layouts and the spinning beachball is spinning for a good 30 seconds each time (sometimes longer).

I've tried cranking the memory allotment way up (256MB).

Performance is only slightly better in 8.5 vs. 8.0

I have a ton of relationships and over 170 layouts.

I just tried to copy a simple box, nothing more, and the beachball just sits there spinning away.

I checked the performance stats in Activity Viewer (Mac OS X) and it is showing a huge amount of processor activity.

What the hell is it doing? Anybody know?

Thanks for your consideration.

Holy crap. (Excuse my French)

I think I solved it.

Do you know the trick for placing objects on the layouts by putting a 1x1 invisible square in the upper left corner? This allows consistent placement from layout to layout.

I had NO idea that this would slow it down so much but with all the copying and copying of this I think I had 10 or twenty of these piled up on top of each other (which it was managing as separate layers)

As soon as I deleted them it worked fine and performance came back to FULL speed. Wow!

Hopefully this is helpful to everyone in the developer community!

Peace,

Will
