Hello,

I have a layout which I would like to "auto sort". In other words, whenever the layout is viewed the contents are sorted by date.

I know I could achieve this using a scripted button, but I would prefer it if whenever this layout is viewd that the contents will sort automatically.

Is this possible, or should I use a portal to acheive this result.

Many thanks

Hi

how do you reach this layout ?

At the moment, I am just selecting the layout using the layout dropdown list in the status viewer.

I have managed to use a button to select the layout, and then sort it, but ideally even if I used the status viewer to select the layout the content would "refresh" automatically...

If so, you need an event Plugin like zippScript or myFMbutler DoScript

I would instead make it completely unscripted, via a selfjoin or such utilizing this techique:

Hi Soren

nice but he said:

If no portal, you'll need a plugin.

Have you ever noticed my reservations to plugin utilization as such???

So Portalize!!!!!.... and if the matter needs to go to a printer are we using a script anyway, that could fledged further!

Thanks, I would prefer not to use a Plugin though, if possible.

Fantastic! That's a very powerful technique.

Good advice, me thinks. I will get busy Portalizing.

Thank you to both of you for your helpful and informative advice. Much appreciated.

I have been exploring this issue today, and I am coming to the realisation that this maybe best resolved by going back to my entity relationship diagram...
