Jazz Globals is a FileMaker plugin which allows storage of global variables across databases. With this plugin you no longer need to litter your databases with global fields and relationships. Essential for all but the novice script writer. (Advanced users should look at Jazz Params).

Jazz Globals has been updated to version 1.5 for Mac (PPC & Intel) and Windows. The version uses the newer (cleaner) FileMaker plugin syntax.

Shareware for a single user is a mere $15. Developer licenses available. Visit http://www.jazzmedia.com.au/jazzglobal.html for more information and to download and try it out.

litter your databases with global fields and relationships

When is this the case? By all means could a global field be located anywhere without needing a relationship pinpointing at it?:

You're right of course -- for FileMaker 8 onwards. I'd forgotten about FileMaker's new SetVariable script step. However in earlier versions you had to create global fields and relationships to access them (and in some FMP versions you also had to ensure the current record data matched the relationship) before you could access the data.

Jazz Globals is still used, and I have had several from existing users to update this plugin. It is useful for developers who need globals to span across different databases (different files) which is the case for many whose product didn't start out in FMP8.

1) Global Fields can span one DATABASE -- Different FILES.

Global Fields can be accessed from any file to any file as long as a file reference exists -- Which would have to exist for those files to make up a database anyway.

2) Global Variables can span one FILE.

Regarding the littering.. you could just one or two repeating fields for different purposes. I use one for each data type i.e. One number, text, date and container field each with 100 repetitions.

Regarding the newer cleaner plugin syntax -- You say it has little use in 8+, but isn't this new upgraded plugin syntax only applicable to 8+ plugins anyway?
