Newbies minnofficeguy Posted February 13, 2007 Newbies Share Posted February 13, 2007 So, I have a database that I've created a script for that creates a backup copy every third time the file is closed. I would like to restrict access to this file (i.e. either hide it or password protect it). It is on a shared drive, so the backup must be there as well (can't just redirect the backup file to another storage location for certain reasons). Any ideas? Steven H. Blackwell
I certainly hope you're not trying to access the file on a shared drive. Steven
Ender
Ditto what Steven says. Network volumes (shared drives) are no place for FileMaker databases. I would like to restrict access to this file (i.e. either hide it or password protect it) Your files should have password protection anyway. But if you're talking about something different than what you have for user logins, what would be the point? If the original file is still accessible, it could easily be duplicated. I'm afraid this backup plan doesn't make much sense to me. For a good automated backup, start with FileMaker Server. Have that make backups to a second local drive.
