Auto entry Portal problems

I've read the posts that are related, and reindexed the fields. unindex, get out of program, back in program re-index.

I have a portal (in Lab dip tracking table) with auto entry look up from another table (Color Table). When I make a selection color code and color name a ghost code appears. If I select again the correct color is displayed but isn't saved (although the ghost code saves)?? Please help. I am trying to allow several drop down/pop up colors to be added to each record.
