Hammerton Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I am new to FMS8A (switching from FMU5 set up). I've installed FMS8A. I can access files from a remote client if I type the address in "fmnet:/...." but the remote server (which is even on my subnet here at work) does not appear. Also, my desktop copy of filemaker server admin can't see the FMS8A machine or respond to the LDAP address. Any ideas?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Be sure that the correct ports (50003 and 50006) are open on the server/firewall for the SAT Tool. The correct port for the Server is 5003. Steven
Hammerton Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 Thank you for your reply Steven. I have looked on the sharing preferences and can't figure out how to manage those ports. Do I do it through itool (my apache gui) or filemaler server or the OS?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 The internal firewall can be managed at System Preferences-->Sharing-->Firewall on OS X, IIRC. If it's an external firewall, theya re all different, and you'll need to check the documentation for the firewall itself. Frequwntly however, they can be managed from a browser from inside the LAN. Hammerton Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 I can successfully ping the 5003 port at the ip for my FMS8A machine. Here's another clue that may help reveal what's going on: In addition to not showing up in the local hosts windows for my FMP client and the remote install of the FMS Admin utility, the databases do not show up on the Published Databases screen / Filemaker Server Tab/ Web Publishing Admin Console. However, the databases are accessible through my FMP client and via IWP.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Is it possible that you checked the option for the name not to display? Steven
Hammerton Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 Thanks for sticking with me Steven. I discovered by accident that in the FMS admin, connect to server, dialog, if you click "add to favorites" when no server is selected, it lets you add one manually. I did this and I successfully connected with my remote FMS8A server. So, that leaves the nagging (but not crucial) issue of why I can't see my server in the local hosts window. I also still don't know why the databases, which are available through IWP still don't appear in the published databases list on the WP Admin console. Hmmm.
