Auto Complete Using Value Lists in Portals

Hi Guys,

I've got a number of fields in a portal, that are displayed as drop-down lists, from various value lists as appropriate. I'm not able to select the "Auto-complete using value list" check-box for the fields inside the portal, whereas fields outside the portal can auto-complete from the value list.

I don't usually have a need to auto-complete value lists from within a portal, so haven't come across this before, but my client has now decided it would be nice to do. Before telling them it isn't possible, I wanted to check that I haven't missed something glaringly obvious.
