Has anyone had any problems with FMP Server 8 V1 shutting down? I host a database with 10 files and have had no problem for 6 months until a week ago. Now, the server, which is on Windows XP, is down every morning when I come to work. Additionally, one of the files would not open. I condensed the file and it opens find now but I'm concerned that the server problem will corrupt the files eventually.

It may be the computer but it's not used for anything else.it's new and has been no problem until now.

Thanks for any insight you may have.

First, I recommend that you get the server off XP and onto Windows Server 2003 as your OS.

Second, why are you still running v1 when v4 is the current release?

1. make sure your battery backup is setup to record an activity log

2. I just had a machine crash each day, because the heat sink had come loose, and the cpu was overheating

3. is there anything scheduled each night? like a backup, that might be failing?

4. check your event logs (windows) and filemaker log

Sorry for not responding, I've been out of the office. I will check the heat sink, whatever that is; it does seem that the cpu is overheating. I will also check the log to see if one of the backups is not working. Thank you. I will let you know.

LOL!

That involves opening up the server and looking at the section b/w the cpu and the motherboard to make sure goo is there. Are you sure you want to do that? I suppose you could at least have a look.

I personally managed to break two CPU's the first couple of times i replaced the heatsink but... Just be careful (though unless your CPU is dramatically overheating, i doubt it's the heatsink).
