I am trying to help an artist-friend use FM to manage his clients and work. We've successfully imported the textual data on his collection of paintings. This includes date of composition, size, etc. One of the fields is a catalog number by which he keeps track of his paintings. The nomenclature is similar to F10-14. Now I am ready to import the images into the database. I am using the Import Folder function and want to import by "updating matching records in found set." I want to match the records based on file-name. The file-names of the images match with the catalog number in the database. Therefore there is an image titled "F10-14" and a record in the database with a catalog number of "F10-14." My problem is that FM see the file-name as both the name- and the extension (in this case .jpg). Therefore the import fails to find any matching records (F10-14.jpg <> F10.14). Does anyone know a solution for this problem?

I really appreciate your help!

I think the easy way to do this is to do a find for only the records that have images associated with them and then sort your records by the catalog number. Once you have done this make sure that the folder with the images is sorted by the file name and then import the folder. It should import the images in the same order your records are sorted in. No match field required.

Thank you. That's a good idea!

Yes, that would work, if they are exactly the same count. It is probably the fastest method. But, for the future, it would also be pretty easy to add ".jpg" to the name with a calculation and use that for "matching." If they are all jpegs. Remember that matching only matches to the found set.
