April 7, 200718 yr Newbies I have a current file that I can't open, it has no password but each time I try to open it I am asked for an account name and password, I only have two account names and neither of those works - can anyone offer a solution
April 7, 200718 yr Files created in FM7/8 have the account "Admin" with a blank password by default. Try that.
April 7, 200718 yr Some converted files have the old password as both Account Name and Password (I think; can't remember for sure); try entering it both boxes. Remember, in 7/8 the password is case-sensitive. It was NOT in 6. So sometimes we were a little sloppy; that can cause problems in a multi-file solution.
April 8, 200718 yr Precisely correct. Try the old password as both the Account Name and the password. If the file opens immediately change one or the other (prefereably the Account Name) to something else. Steven
April 10, 200718 yr Newbies Hey! This is exactly the reason I came to these forums, and this is exactly the answer (it worked!!) to my exact question! Thank you both for answer and question! Now, to move on, how do I stop FMP from asking for a user name or password whatsoever? This is a no-risk file in a low-risk environment. I'd like for this dialog to NOT appear. I didn't ask FMP to ask for an Account Name or Password, don't know why it's doing so, and would like it to cease and desist. (Wow, talking about a computer program as if I were in a court room. Scary.) I actually also have problems with two other FMP solutions of mine that should not be asking for passwords at all, yet do. But with them, I can usually get them to work by canceling out of the dialog, clicking on the Finder or any other program, and then opening the file(s) again. While that has worked every time, I'd still like to know what's going on.
April 10, 200718 yr You can have it remember your account settings in the File Options. But this is not a very good practice, especially with hosted solutions.
