Preloading the login prompt

Featured Replies

When I launch my standalone app, I'm prompted by a dialog box as follows:

Open "MTC Data" using:

( ) Guest Account

(x) Account Name

Account Name: Jonathan B. Goode [the Mac OS X account name]

Password:

[ ] Add to Keychain

(Change Password...) (Cancel) (OK)

I'd like for it to preload the account name with "staff" rather than the OS account name.

The password field should be blank and the user must fill this in.

I don't want assistance from Keychain.

I don't want a user to be able to change the password.

File Options would appear to be the place to control this, but it appears there are only three options:

-- No automatic login

-- Automatic login as Guest

-- Automatic login with Account Name and Password both specified.

None of those is what I need.

Under Define Accounts and Privileges, I have three accounts: staff, admin, and [Guest]. In that order. Staff's privilege set disallows changing the password.

Every time I launch the app, however, the login comes preloaded with the full name from the Mac OS X account, not 'staff'. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks...

Chap

Look in FileMaker's Preferences -> General -> Username -> Other and type the usename you want to appear. However, this will become that name that gets returned by the Get ( UserName ) functions, which might not be what you want.

Even THAT doesn't work!

Is it possible that there are some additional twiddles I need to make to Accounts and Privileges, or File Options?

Right now,

File Options > Open/Close > Log in using: is unchecked,

Accounts & Privileges > Accounts lists three active accounts (staff, admin, and [guest]).

Actually, Filemaker Pro Advanced Preferences > General > User Name > Other doesn't affect a standalone application at all, it appears. (That sort of makes sense.)

Looks like, for a standalone app, I can either log them in automatically, or prompt them with their Account Name preloaded with their OS account name. Or do it with a Startup script and a custom dialog, which is what I'll try now.
