Newbies elkay_brooklyn Posted June 9, 2007 Newbies Posted June 9, 2007 I have been a FM user for data entry for a number of years, but I was recently charged with putting together a simple FM db for an auction event that my nonprofit organization is having. I'm a quick study, but I've been given a short time-line, and am having trouble figuring out the names of the concepts that I need, so I haven't been able to search for help effectively. So, please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place, or if this question was answered recently. I just wasn't able to find the answer. I have two fields that I need to relate, and they need to have a one-to-one relationship. I think I need to use value lists for this, but I'm not sure. One field contains "Item Number" and one field contains "Item Name". I've figured out how to set up both fields as pull-down menus, using value lists. I want this behavior: user enters or selects a specific Item Number, and then the Item Name for that number is automatically populated in the Item Name field. What do I need to do to get this to work? Should I be using value lists, or is there a better way to do this?
Newbies elkay_brooklyn Posted June 11, 2007 Author Newbies Posted June 11, 2007 I still haven't made any progress on this, so if there is someone around today who knows the answer, I would be happy to hear it. Thanks.
Søren Dyhr Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 As long as you, forgive my clunky foreign way of expressing it, read this: http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/187433/post/253555/hl/lookup/fromsearch/1/#253555 ...and please note the distinction between lookup's and live relations. --sd
