Rich S Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Hi, all: I'm feeling unusually dense today so hopefully you can get my head wrapped around a custom menu problem. Background: In the aviation world there's a list we call an ATA list that references different components on an aircraft, like so: 12 Servicing 1210 Fuel Servicing 1220 Oil Servicing 1230 Hydraulic Fluid Servicing 1240 Coolant Servicing 18 Helicopter Vibration 1800 Helicopter Vibration/Noise Analysis 1810 Helicopter Vibration Analysis 1820 Helicopter Noise Analysis In my solution, rather than send someone off to a layout and have him or her search through all of codes for the one they want (we're talking hundreds, here), I thought, "Hey--why not just have a custom menu named ATA Codes so when a user clicks on it, the main headings appear... 12 Servicing 18 Helicopter Vibration 21 Air Conditioning ...then when a user clicks on the menu item "12 Servicing", a fly-out menu would appear with its subordinate codes, e.g., if I clicked on ATA Codes -> 12 Servicing, a fly-out menu list would appear with... 1210 Fuel Servicing 1220 Oil Servicing 1230 Hydraulic Fluid Servicing 1240 Coolant Servicing ...so if I were to click on 1210 Fuel Servicing, that would populate a text field named (you guessed it) ATA Code. I've already set up a custom menu for other functions and it's working fine, so... :S As always, your help will be GREATLY appreciated! Have a safe and insane Fourth!
Vaughan Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 This cannot be done with FMP 8.5. I'd use filtered portals to display the options and allow selection.
Rich S Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 Thanks, Vaughan--I was afraid of that. Currently, I have it set up as a drop-down menu in a portal but because of field width constraints, the text for the longer codes are "ellipsied" out...but filtering the portal is a good idea--something to work on until the fireworks go off later today, anyway. Thanks again!
