adjusting column width

Hello,

Is there a way to let the end user of my product adjust the width of columns in table view, by having a dialog box to type in the desired number of characters wide the column should be?: and if so, what is the best way to do it??

Not for width in characters, no.

Right-clicking on the column header allows entry of the width in pixels, inches or centimetres.

Entering in the "desired number of characters" wouldn't work because a character's width depends on the character itself, and on its font size and type face.
