Unclear on this: I'm setting up Filemaker Server 9 on Windows Server 2003, ONLY for access by filemaker clients over a WAN (ie no web-based access at all).

In the server, if I want to use higher security by checking "Secure connections to FileMaker Server", do I need to purchase an SSL certificate? Or is the latter only necessary for web-based connections?

Thanks in advance for any help!

You don't need an additional certificate for this. However be sure to restart FileMaker Server to place this option in effect.

BTW, the encryption used is TripleDES with HMAC-SHA1 for integrity checking.
