I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but I can't find it. How do I access the filemaker server offsite? Do I need a static IP?

We want to be able to use a laptop at a location and access the filemaker database server to do entry real-time. There are also others in office working at the same time. I want the outside person at the shows to be able to login and also enter/chaneg data. We are using Filemaker 8.

I would greatly appreciate any info on what we need to do to make this happen. I'm sure it's easy and I'm sure the answer is online somewhere but I can't find a straight answer.
