I created a script using open URL, to open a folder on a windows server. However, if I connect to the database using open remote, and I then try to call the script to open the folder on the server, Filemaker hangs, searching for the IP address. But if I establish a VPN connection first, and then call the same script, it works fine.

Is there a way that I can require Filemaker to test for an active VPN before calling the open URL script to prevent the user's computer from hanging up?

It's probably not hung, just waiting for a timeout to expire. Wait for a minute or two and it should respond.

I don't think there is a FMP-native way of doing this. It would probably require some OS-level scripting to achieve.
