Newbies rongobong77 Posted October 10, 2007 Newbies Posted October 10, 2007 This is probably a beginner question. I am running filemaker 8.5 on my network. As an administrator, if I am the first to log in I become the host. When others log in remotely, that is when I have a problem. Different users have different access privileges. How can I make sure they log in remotely and have the proper limits to their privileges? Right now, if they log in remotely, they have the access privileges of the initial host. I do not want them having full access. Is there some type of work around, or am i missing something obvious? Please help. this is the last thing I need to get my database up and running.
Ender Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 It sounds like you might be opening the file from a network volume. This is not the way to host a FileMaker solution. The host machine should have the file(s) stored on a local hard drive. In the file's Sharing settings, you can turn on Network Sharing and also enable the 'Access via FileMaker Network' extended privilege bit for each privile set. Each workstation will then connect using File->Open Remote (or an opener file). When they do so, they should be prompted for an account and password.
