Cardiofuse Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I currently host 15 Filemaker 9 Dbs on a dedicated iMac (new). Would I benefit from speed or anything else if I bought a Mac Server X machine runing Leopard Server software? Not sure if this gets me any more speed with Filemaker?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 FileMaker Server does not run on Leopard OS. That said, you will get better performance and better monitoring with server hardware and server OS. If you can still acquire OS X Server (10.4.10) and a Macintosh machine where you can replace the factory supplied SATA drives with SCSI or Serial Attached SCSI drives, you will begin to have the framework for server class machines and OS. Please see the Server Tech Brief from the FMI web site for more and more detailed information. Steven
D-fendr Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 In specing a new X-Serve, the Serial Attached SCSI drives seem less expensive than going SCSI. Are there any negatives or comprises in performance?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 No, the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) are fine for FileMaker Server. Steven
