Newbies ghoang Posted November 23, 2007 Newbies Posted November 23, 2007 Howdy ppls, Im a newbie at filemaker and i got a question for you. We backup our entire server using Symantec Veritas. will that safely backup the file maker database? or will it come up as corrupt if we reload our image? Im slightly confused because to my knowledge the filemaker database is a fully live database and backups of these type of databases are volatile when it comes to copying or backing up without proper proceedure. can anyone give me guidance on what i should do? Many thanks. Huy.

Blackwell Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 We backup our entire server using Symantec Veritas. will that safely backup the file maker database? or will it come up as corrupt if we reload our image? Not a good idea. Exclude the FileMaker databases from such a process if you continue to use it. FileMaker Server will make its own backups. You can then push those out to a file server for backup by Veritas. or you could have veritas come after the local backups. Your core instincts to be wary of the procedure currently in use is a well-placed concern. I recommend your reading of the Server Tech Brief from FMI. Steven
