Newbies Makakio Posted January 16, 2008 Newbies Posted January 16, 2008 Hi all - appreciate the help here and am looking for some simple advice. I will be spending a few months away at my vacation home and have a FM template and DB at my home office (set up by a college student a few years ago - I have little to no FM knowledge). Although I regularly back up the data, I don't want to lug my system to the vaca home (would rather take my laptop). What would be the steps to making a copy of the template from the home office computer and setting it up on my laptop? As the next step, what would be the process for making a copy of the data as well? The data should remain static over the period that I'm away, so I'm concerned primarily with accessing it, not necessarily having to sync it back up when I return. Thanks in advance! - Maka
UpNorth Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 My suggestion would be... to use the help feature of filemaker to walk you through the steps of making a copy of the file. Once you have a copy you can then put the copy file on your laptop. You will need filemaker on your laptop to open the file and use it. When you get back from your vacation home then make a copy of the file and put it back on your office machine. Of course you will want to make sure you are backing up your database when you are on vacation. I hope this suggestion helps.
