Hosting a website using Filemaker Server

Greetings,

I am brand new at File Maker and at Mac Servers. Usually I work in the Windows server environment with Access or SQL, and even then, I am no DBA by any means. I have a project to get a website up that is running from Filemaker Advanced Server 8.0v4 on OSX Tiger. The goal is to make various Filemaker databases available over the web. We have a URL and an IP address, and a G5 running the 2 above mentioned programs. I am wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of how to get this set up, with the result being a site with links to the data in these databases, delivered over the web. As I understand it, Filemaker can host web sites and make databases available online. We would like them available for viewing by general users and even possibly have user access rights so that if a user logs into the website with administative rights they can add records, and update databases. Is this something that can be done with these products? Or is there something else needed to make it happen? I will need to know how to: move the individual databases from people's desktops in to the Filemaker server, publish a site in Filemaker that contains these databases for viewing and manipulating over the web, and set up users and rights for the site. Any input is very much appreciated. Links to tutorials, step-by-steps, etc.

Thanks, Johnny5

All this is entirely possible, but it's too lengthy to explain here. Have you read the Web Publishing Tech Briefs and the White Papers that come with the product?
