February 13, 200817 yr Newbies Hello everybody. I have looked and looked and I have not been able to find any guidance, tips, articles or example files on how to design a knowledge base. 1. If you know of any such (free!) resources, please post them here. 2. I would really appreciate any help with getting started with the design of a knowledge base. (I am a novice, I got I believe some key things and I am continuing studying a FileMaker book.) The Knowledge Base: It is for internal use (not web publish). I want the KB to be both searchable and have some hierarchical structure. Each KB entry will have an ID (auto-enter), name, keywords, "tags" and body (main entry). The keywords users will enter separated by commas in a Keyword field (to increase "findability"). The "tags" (or categories) are my difficulty: Each KB entry will have several tags (or belong to several categories). Some of these tags will cross-reference. Some tags will have hundreds of "sub-tags", some will have only a few. And some "sub-tags" may also have sub-tags! What is the way that makes most "sense" to design this? I have so far one table for the KB entries and one for the tags. - How do I do the sub-tags? Should I create separate table for them and link it to the tag table? (each tag will have TagID, tag name, tag description, creation/modification date etc., so it cannot be just a value list) - How should I implement, the selection of the right tags, quickly and easily, when creating a new KB entry? (bearing in mind that some of the tag list may be long) I hope you understand what I am trying to accomplish, and I appreciate any help you can give me (bear in mind I am a beginner/novice!)
