why is it that everytime i login (or maybe its everytime i start) fms9 puts an icon on my desktop. its kinda annoying. i've got that icon in my dock and that's plenty. is there a setting to change for this?

Don't think so on the Mac OS. Welcome to the world of Java. OTOH, try clicking one of these icons rather than going through the start page. It will launch the Console.
