Newbies fmfay Posted April 8, 2008 Newbies Posted April 8, 2008 Hello, Hope someone may be able to shed some light for me. I'm pretty new to Vista but I haven't been able to remotely access FM files using an OpenVPN connection since I got my new laptop. I've got a WAN Miniport connection to a different server which I can access remotely with FM, so it only seems to be the VPN that's the problem. Although OpenVPN is connecting fine, when I click on Favourite Hosts, there are no files available. I installed the same setup on an XP machine on our network and the files were accessible straight away. If I ping the server on the vista machine it tells me 'TTL expired in transit.' This would normally lead me to think the ISP could be at fault... but the trouble-free connection on the XP machine seems to discount this! I have added FM + OpenVPN to my firewall exceptions, for all the good that may or may not have done. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help!
Søren Dyhr Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 there are no files available There shouldn't filemaker solutions are served by protocol only! --sd
Newbies fmfay Posted April 8, 2008 Author Newbies Posted April 8, 2008 Either I've made some laughable error in my post which I can't spot, or I haven't made myself clear. The hosts appear on the Vista machine, but not the files served by those hosts.
Søren Dyhr Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I just needed to make sure you use the open remote dialog - I appologise being currious here. Now by taking that for granted, are you sure port 5003 is open in the firewall?? And the option in the sharing of the solution, not is set to hide the filenames over the "Remote..." ?? --sd
Newbies fmfay Posted April 8, 2008 Author Newbies Posted April 8, 2008 Both hosts are set as 'Show all available files for this host' I'm certain they are set up correctly on the server because they are accessible from the XP machine in my office. I'm not sure where to find the port settings - I found the list of exceptions though. Disabling the firewall didn't change anything, I'm not sure if that narrows it down.
