Verification failed

Featured Replies

Hi,

We have just upgraded from Server 8 to Server 9, and I have selected the option "Verify backup integrity" for both the midday and nightly backup we run.

And, we have received the message "Verification failed" after each schedule has been run...

The backups themselves look fine - the correct number of files have been backed up, they are the correct size, and I can open and use them fine.

I can't seem to locate any documentation regarding the verification process.

Does anyone know what the verification process is actually doing, and what might be causing the "Verification failed" message?

Thank you,

jd.

Chances are there is some sort of damage to the files, and that's why verification of backup is failing.

Close all files. Stop all the FMS services. Open all the files with FileMaker pro, and from within FileMaker pro select Save a Copy... and select save as compacted. This will save a copy of the files.

Replace the files previously hosted with the newly saved copies, relaunch FileMaker Server, and immediately run a backup to see what results.

Do not discard the older files just yet.

Hi,

Fortunately we have scripts in our files to Save a Copy as Compressed (we have 50+ files).

This has been completed, and the "Last Run Status" on the backup schedule is now "OK" - so I assume the Verification is now successful...

jd.

If it does not say that verification failed, then the backup was successful. However, you need to keep a close eye on this server and these files to be sure some other untoward event does not occur.
