Adding a Link in a Record to a PDF stored outside the program

I hope I am in the right forum. I updating to FileMaker 8.5 and want to make some changes to my database. My database contains a service call ticket for each and every invoice that is processed through our company. I want to include a few important pieces of info in a record for each invoice and then link a pdf of the invoice to the record. (e.g. while in a record you can click on a link that will open the corresponding invoice so that the user can view the entire invoice, eliminating a trillion file cabinets and saving time). If this is possible where can I find directions on how to do this? I am working without a server right now, but I am not sure if I need one as this computer will only be used for this one filemaker database. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated! :laugh2:
