July 14, 200817 yr First flight from Charleston to Atlanta cancelled Sunday afternoon. The pair of us got on the next flight out via Standby In Atlanta next flight was delayed due to weather. Then delayed again. And again. And then again. Now we get on the plane (3 hours later-could have been worse.) Still at the gate 15 minutes after everyone on board. Pilot gets on the P.A. "Flight has been cancelled". Long lines everywhere! May be sleeping in the airport tonight. Possibility of a Delta provided hotel, if you can get through the crawling line. Next flight out is Monday am. Arriving in Phoenix: 9:30ish! Guess we're missing out on the awesome welcoming keynote. >: The best-laid plans of mice and men... Wish someone there could record the keynote : Wishing we were there already....hope everyone else's travels have had a better result.
July 18, 200817 yr Leland, did you get there ok? My trip was just as harrowing, but I got to see the keynote: Start 4:00 am (Eastern Daylight) 1) drive 1.5 hrs to Lexington 2) fly to Atlanta ( 3) get on plane to PHX (1/2 the passengers anyway) 4) sit on plane with no food (about 3 hrs) because of the weather 5) fly near to PHX (with NO food) 6) nearly run out of fuel 7) divert to Albaquerue, even tho the crew was low on remaining time 8) pilot promises that if we can refuel and be in the air in 30 minutes, we'll continue 9) plane won't restart, crew out of time, get towed to terminal in dark and no air and NO FOOD 10) sit in Albaquerque terminal to wait for new crew from Atlanta; can purchase food if I can keep from passing out because my blood sugar has dropped really low by this point. 11) finally get to fly to PHX 12) arrive at Hotel End (about) 3:00 am (PHX time), or 6:00 am (Eastern time) == more than 24 hrs. I slept when I checked in, got up for the Keynote and missed the first two sessions because I went back to room to sleep. Also MISSED (sunday night) php User group; Chocolate tasting. I don't know about you, but I think I'll walk next year. Surely I can get there faster... (oh, and I always take food with me from now on!)
