Please excuse my ignorance, but where is the "services Control Panel"?

I too am a newby with the server side and running OX server; I am able to start up the Filemaker Server Admin Console, I try to click the "Start Server" button/menu pull-down and nothing happens. Whenever I click the Database, the following prompt occurs: "The Database Server is not available. Admin Console functionality is limited to Filemaker Server Overview. To use other functionality, please start the Database Server again". On server info, no hosted files are showing.

Mult restarts of the Admin Console as well as the server do not work.

However, the database is up and running and can be connected remotely as well as the previously established back up schemes. phew!

Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance!

OS X Server, Filemaker Pro Server - both with the latest updates

Whoops. Thiught you were running on Windows Server 2003. If using OS X Server, you'll need to start the server from the Terminal. All the commands are in the documentation. Here are some of the key ones however:

sudo launchctl start com.filemaker.fms

sudo launchctl stop com.filemaker.fms

Use of the sudo command requires authentication.

Also give this "latest updates" item, be sure that FMS is using the x326 patch from FMI. If "latest updates" includes the 7/31 Apple security patch, that may be contributing to the problem.

It WORKED! Thx!!!

Strangely, this did not work on the first time; I rebooted and ran into the same problem. I followed your instructions and then rebooted again and was able to log in and work with the database using the Server Admin Console!

And YES, this was the latest security patch. . . .hmmm. . . .

Interestingly, the "latest update" on the software update section is "Current Installed Version: 9.03.325" despite hitting the "Check Now" selection.

But stupid me, I then installed v. 9.0.3.326 manually, restarted the machine and it did not work again! I then applied the terminal solution - multiple times (i.e. more than twice but lost count) but it finally worked again. PHEW!

I hope this continues to work (at least until the next update)! :(

Again, my sincerest thank you for helping me as well your very punctual response!!!
