yalebulldog Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I am trying to load the FMS9 that I got from the TechNet membership onto to Windows Vista Ultimate. I uninstalled everything and try starting the admin console and keeping getting the same error "The Database Server is not available. To edit Server Deployment, please start the database server first." I read similar post, but the ones I found related to Mac OS. Any help is appreciated. Best
aldipalo Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I'm not familiar with Vista Ultimate, but, in Windows 2003 server you go to "Services" and make sure FMServer is started. You may want to look and see if you have something similar in Vista. hth
Steven H. Blackwell Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I am trying to load the FMS9 that I got from the TechNet membership onto to Windows Vista Ultimate. FileMaker Server 9 does not run on Vista. The Console may be downloaded to a Vista machine, but Server itself doesn't run on Vista. See the Tech Specs page from FMI web site. HTH Steven
yalebulldog Posted August 16, 2008 Author Posted August 16, 2008 Thanks Steven... another reason I don't like Vista!!
Robert Schaub Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I am trying to load the FMS9 that I got from the TechNet membership onto to Windows Vista Ultimate. First I know this post is a month old already. Sorry I just saw it for the first time today. Yalebullog, I too got my copy from technet. On Vista Ultimate I can get everything going except the web publishing. On my Laptop (Vista Home Premimum), In the past I have had everything going , but today I start up the server for the first time in a few months and I am getting the same results as I do in ultimate. If I mess around with some I cn get it all to work on Vista Home Premimum.. but that is for another time... Bottom line is if you want stabiltiy stick with XP until they solve the Vista issues.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Nothing has changed about this since my August 15th post. FWIW, I do not expect that FileMaker Server 9 will ever run on Vista. Now, I have been fooled before by these types of items, but that's my guess. Steven
