Recently Starr Data has been overhauling their website at www.starrdata.com

This new site has a pretty cool and unique navigation set on the home page.

Come and have a look around and enjoy. Also visit the download page. A

new sample was added today 9/23/2008.

Duplicate Data Across Multiple Fields

Using custom formatting you can now capture duplicate data across multiple fields on the same record. If there are 2 or more duplicate fields, the conditional format calculation kicks in to alert the user by changing the background color to red.

In this sample you must have FileMaker 9.0 ore higher.

Hi

the "Duplicates Across Multiple Fields" example doesn't work with names that are part of another; try Rob and Robert !

It's better ( and simpler ) a calc like this:

ValueCount ( FilterValues ( List ( Field1 ; ... ; Field10 ) ; Self ) ) > 1

BTW: If it's important to make difference from [color:red]Robert and [color:red]robert, this calc is better:

Let([

L = List ( Field1 ; ... ; Field10 ) ;

VC1 = ValueCount ( ¶ & L & ¶ ) ;

VC2 = ValueCount ( Substitute ( ¶ & L & ¶ ; ¶ & Self & ¶ ; "" ) )

];

VC1 > VC2 + 3

)

Your calculation works good except but I can not expect the field technichins to be case sensitive while inputting their data. Your way rob and Rob are not duplicates but the should be. In my way you said Rob and Robert doesn't work. Your right. Rob lights up as a partial hit. Maybe a partial hit should be a different color. If They enter rob and Rob they both light up.

Thanks for your version I will save for when I need case sensitive duplicate checks.

Other than that, what where your thoughts about the website?

In your calculation you'll need only a "*" more !

Very nice ! A good work !

Only one point: under WEBSITE LINKS there is NOT this site.
