Newbies gatorjp Posted October 26, 2008 Newbies Posted October 26, 2008 I am working on a database to help secondary school students choose majors in high school.Different High Schools have different major selections. I would like to create a drop down box field with the selections being the high schools in the district, and then, based on that selection, have another drop down box to allow the student to choose one of the majors offered by that high school. Can a selection by one drop down box control the selections offered in another drop down box?
aldipalo Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hi and welcome to the forum. What you want is called a Conditional Value List. In order to achieve what you want you need to have two tables: Schools Majors Then set a relationship between the two. Schools::SchoolID -> Major::fk_SchoolID Then you set your first Value List to: Schools::School Name Set your second Value List to: Major::MajorName Check "Include only Related Values Starting From Schools" That should do it. If you have a problem let us know. You can also find plenty of postings on this subject by doing a search for Conditional + Value + Lists. hth
