The Newport Beach Police Department Invites Applications for the position of

Computer Applications Coordinator

Salary: $35.50 - $49.95 hourly ($73,840 - $103,896 a year)

Any overtime worked can be taken in pay or as comp time (at time and a half), at the employee's choice.

This position works a 10 hours a day, 4 days a week, work schedule. Lunch time is included in the 10 hours.

Examples of essential duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Responsible for designing computer applications, primarily in FileMaker, modifying them to improve production and work flow and implementing enhancements designed to serve new purposes/needs;

• Assist users during the implementation of computer applications; provide users training; prepare users’ documentation;

• Providing "help desk" services to computer end-users of varying skills, as needed.

• Perform necessary physical demands of the job, such as lifting, carrying, dragging, pushing and pulling objects of various weights and sizes; standing, walking and climbing over various distances and obstructions;

• Maintain confidential information;

• Respond appropriately to emergency or operationally necessary situations that require overtime, travel, or being called back to work;

• Perform related duties as assigned.

• Receive line supervision from the Police Computer Systems Manager and functional supervision from police supervisory staff and from the Police Applications Coordinator.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Required:

Three (3) years of recent full-time computer programming work.

FileMaker Pro Client and Server Software;

Windows operating systems based desktop computers and servers and TCP/IP Networks

Desired:

Microsoft SQL Server; HTML and ASP

Training:

Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in management information systems, information technology or a related field.

License/Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

Background:

Record must be free from any felony convictions. Record must also be free from any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, and from an excessive number of citations for traffic violations. Background history should indicate responsibility, dependability, honesty, integrity, acceptable communications skills, good judgment and the ability to relate well with others.

Application must be made on a city application form available at the Newport Beach Police Dept., 870 Santa Barbara Dr., PO Box 7000, NB CA 92660, or by calling 949-644-3391, toll free at 877-WK4-NBPD or at www.nbpd.org. A copy of your driver’s license must be attached. Both sides of the application must be completed in full. A brief resume may be submitted with the application.

Selection Procedure: The first part of the selection process is a complete evaluation of the application. Resumes are strongly encouraged. Those candidates deemed most qualified based upon their application materials will be invited to an oral examination intended to measure the candidate's combination of experience, training, knowledge, education, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. The names of those passing the oral interview with a score of 70% or higher will be placed on the eligible list. Final selection will be made by the Police Chief. The selection process will include a detailed background investigation, polygraph examination and administrative review. Prior to appointment, a comprehensive medical examination including drug screening will be administered by the City Medical Examiner.
