We have recently moved from FM5.5 to FM9 on many of the PCs in our school but there are still many PCs and many databases which have not been update/converted. As a result we are having to maintain FM5.5 databases on PCs which have both FM9 and FM5.5 installed. There are no problems except that...

In FM5.5, every time we create a new layout we get "Filemaker Pro.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

A new blank layout is the only one which works.

When this happens, there should be a Details button in the dialog. Click it and report here what app is listed in the details, as well as everything else in the dialog. A screenshot of the dialog is probably easiest.
