Troi Automatisering releases Troi File Plug-in 4.6 for FileMaker Pro 10

Updated file manipulation plug-in for FileMaker Pro 10 adds server-side and web-engine functionality.

Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands, January 29th, 2009--Troi Automatisering today announced the immediate availability of Troi File Plug-in 4.6 for FileMaker Pro 10.

What is Troi File Plug-in?

Troi File Plug-in is a very powerful tool for getting access to information outside the FileMaker Pro database. Any files or folders stored on the computer can be accessed through the functions of the plug-in. All from within FileMaker Pro you can:

- get data from files that are on the disk of the computer into FileMaker Pro

- create files anywhere on the hard disk and put data from FileMaker fields into them

- manipulate files and folders on the disk: this includes creating, deleting, copying, moving and modifying files and folders

- get the size on disk, creation and modification dates and much more

- launch and reveal files directly from FileMaker Pro

- manage your images and movies, and read and write IPTC and Exif metadata to JPEG images!

What is new in version 4.6?

Troi File Plug-in 4.6 fixes several bugs but also has some new features. It has these main changes:

New features

- Compatible with FileMaker Pro 10.

- Troi File plug-in is now compatible to run under FileMaker Server: it can run as a server-side plug-in or as a plug-in used by the web publishing engine when using FileMaker Server.

- Added new TrFile_VersionAutoUpdate function, which is part of an emerging standard for FileMaker plug-ins of third party vendors of plug-ins. The version number is returned in the format aabbccdd where every letter represents a digit of the level, so versions can be easily compared.

Bug fixes

- Improved Drag and Drop functionality: triggering is now more safe, eliminating a possible crash. Also fixed a bug with Drag and Drop functionality using a FileMaker file that is hosted on a FileMaker server: drag and drop now works more reliable.

- Fixed a bug in TrFile_SetContents and TrFile_AppendContents: when writing text which contains lots of Unicode characters that require more than two UTF-8 characters, the text is now written out completely.

- Improved the handling of Unicode paths.

- Bug fixes in several other functions: TrFile_MountDisk, TrFile_MetaData, TrFile_DiskInfo, TrFile_CreateThumbnail, TrFile_Substitute, TrFile_GetFileAttribute and TrFile_SetFileAttribute.

Graphic improvements

- Tested with FileMaker Pro 10 and tweaked several little (graphic) issues.

- Adapted example file DragAndDrop.fp7, to take into account that the status area in FileMaker Pro 10 is no longer at the left. This caused the custom drag and drop rectangle to be drawn at the wrong location.

Improved example files and documentation

- Improved the example files DragAndDrop.fp7 and ManageMedia.fp7 to better handle network paths, and PDFs.

- Improved the MoveFolder.fp7 example.

- Added the switch "-GetXMP" to the documentation of the TrFile_Metadata function.

Troi File Plug-in has several other improvements. More detailed information on all of the changes and improvements implemented in Troi File Plug-in 4.6 can be found at: .

All these features and functions also work in a runtime solution. The plug-in now has 61 functions, giving you limitless possibilities in managing the world outside the database. We invite you to test drive the new functions and see what you can do with it!
