The blank line is there so that you can add a related record simply by typing new record information there. If you don't want to do that, Edit your relationship, and un-check the "allow creation of related records" checkbox. Then the blank line will disappear

Hello and thank you for you help.

here is my problem.

a field, called homephone is on portal, which is linked to customer database. when I type in the homephone number, if that phone number is on the database, the customer info will display in the fields in the portal. no problem with this. But, it always displays another portal row with blank records. why? I, of course, want just the record(s) to show.
