Adding a password to my standalone FM10 app

Hello

Please bear with me, I'm not a Filemaker "Pro" (as it were). I'm a novice user, and I need help with something that I'm hoping is very simple.

I created a serial number database a long time ago (FMP7) and I'm porting it to FMP10 to re-release it with a couple of new bells and whistles. It's a free app that I give away on versiontracker.com.

Many users have asked for simple password security. Not encryption, just a simple "type password" on launch.

Is there a super-easy way to:

- ask the user to create a password on first launch

- ask for that password each time the app launches

- have a layout where they can edit the password

I hope this is easy. I'm not really a scripter.

Thanks in advance.

Create your own Account Name and Password to open the file. Give that to users. From the File Menu, have users select Change Password option.

That's good - and it works! Thank you!

Is there a way to allow the user to opt NOT to use a password if they choose? So that they are not forced to type one on on launch even if the choose a blank one?

All files must have credentials. If you don't want a user to have to enetr them, you use the auto-log on. Except that's what got you into this fix to start with. Generally speaking, it is a good idea to require all users to log on with credentials.
