I would like the following if anyone knows of this solution it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for an printable addressbook fm solution. It should have the following:

1. layout adjustable (adding fields as desired)

2. Alphabetic Tabs on the side (A-Z)

3. Hard Copy Output

4. Should only Print the Tab that corresponds to the first letter in the last name

Can anyone recommend a solution that can do this offline addressbook

(10.5 can do this but it's a very poor output) Thought this would be a welcome alternative.

Does it need to interact with other programs, like mail? Does it have to be FMP?

How much are you prepared to pay for it?

Look and see if one of the templates supplied with FMP will meet your needs or provide a starting point.

Have you looked around the web at some of the freeware/shareware address book solutions around that aren't built in FMP?

Basically all you need is a portal filtered by a letter. It has to be a portal, because you want the letters on the side. The portal could be a list of the names, and whatever else you can fit. This could be within a Tab, with another tab showing the details.

Yes, it could be printable. But you do not have to print from the same layout as you see; in fact it's generally not a good idea, as the sizes of layouts and "pages" do not need to be the same, nor the size or type of fonts used. A script can print from a different layout without any visible change to the screen.

Since it is a portal filtered by letter, Go To Related Records would produce the records of that relationship, targeting the print layout, printing as list.

The main work would be finding or making the alphabet buttons. You could just use FileMaker buttons, covering the edge with a line. That would make it easy to conditionally highlight the "active" letter.

And, as Vaughan says, whatever integration you'd need with other sources (Address Book for example).
