September 21, 200025 yr I am developing a Filemaker System for a client that has an NT Server which is also the running Filemaker Server 5. All is well except for remote access via an IP #. The person that handles the NT Software has set NT up so that the staff at the clients location uses the null IP numbers 192.168.0.x for the internal access to the NT Server and Filemaker. They do have a DSL line which has a regular IP number. The NT person is trying to provide Internet Security since he has file sharing turned on. He wants to configure the DSL router so that Filemaker is the only item that remote users can see. It has not been successful. Does anyone use a configuration similar to this that remote users can get Filmaker access.
September 21, 200025 yr Hello John, I am doing what you describe(with fmp server 3, soon fmp server5) and it works great. I need more information on your configuation. Does the server have two network cards? Does it have a static IP address available from the internet? How is the firewall configured? (software, hardware, managed by ISP?)Is there any internet sharing software being used?
September 22, 200025 yr We have been deploying remotely via NT Terminal Server for quite some time and have had great success .... If the NT TS Box has dual NIC's, you could secure this with "Black Ice".
October 4, 200025 yr Author The NT server only has 1 NIC card. The Server did have 2 NIC cards but the NT Tech does not want to user this approach. The NT Tech is trying to get remote access working by configuring the DSL router. It has not been successful. The DSL line does have a permanent IP nunmber but that is not used by the internal staff. They use the null IP number set.
October 11, 200025 yr There is a FileMaker article number 106727 that outlines this type of issue. http://www.filemaker.com/support/techinfo.html A good rule of thumb if you can not ping the ip ad. FileMaker is not going to see the host. Hope this helps beltro
