OMamed Posted November 27, 2000 Posted November 27, 2000 I've noted that FM Server5 stops and starts all hosted DBs about every hour for about 1 second. The message that this is being done for safe backup purposes, but the DB is only down for about 1 second before it is opened again for 'writes'. Is this normal? Why? Can it be stopped, or scheduled for when backups actually do occur? Thanks!
Vaughan Posted November 28, 2000 Posted November 28, 2000 What has the cache write-back iterval been set to? File/Preferences/Application. Is there a script permanently running in one of the databases?
OMamed Posted November 28, 2000 Author Posted November 28, 2000 The cache flush is set to go off every hour. It would appear that our usage is such that we rarely need to go to cache to get data. (Lots of DBs, not a whole lot of activity, no performance issues.) Should I uncheck the "Flush Cache" box, and let FMServer do it on idle time, when there is a need? The FMServer manual makes no recommendation. Thanks!
Vaughan Posted November 29, 2000 Posted November 29, 2000 Try letting FMP work out when to flush its own caches, and see if the situation improves. Post back your findings pleae!
OMamed Posted November 30, 2000 Author Posted November 30, 2000 That's the trick! No mommetary slow downs, no lost data. Since our use is low, this solution works great! Thanks!
