odd window behavior

Featured Replies

I had 3 windows open looking at different tables from the same solution. One of the windows sort of froze...that is to say I could not close that window and I could not quit filemaker (had to eventually Force Quit). Within the frozen window, I could switch layouts, go to different records, run scripts, and enter data. I could not switch to the other 2 windows, which remained in the background regardless of where I clicked. Any ideas on what causes that behavior?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I wasn't sure where to start.

Do you have any scripts in this file?

It sounds like you might have been stuck in some sort of script loop. I say that because when we write software and want users to stay in a particular window, we will write a script with 'allow user abort off' at the top and then a loop that only exits when the user does something useful. They cannot then switch to any of the other windows... in other words, exactly what you describe.

Thanks. I do have a lot of scripts, including a couple that navigate to different windows based on window titles. I'll go through the possible culprits.

Good plan. Look in particular for anything with "allow user abort off" and "loop" in the same script.

As you are using FM Advanced I'd suggest you do a Database Design Report, which will produce a big HTML file... open it in Safari and do a text search for "Allow user abort". Might save you a little while :D-)

Cheers
