FileMaker Developers Told That Good Security Practices

Are Even More Important In Challenging Economic Times

August 13th 2009 San Francisco, CA.

“Especially in these challenging economic times, FileMaker Pro developers and users must be assured of the reliability of their FileMaker based technology. A failure will have significant impact on an organization or users. Failure and lack of reliability will have adverse consequences for developers, for users, and for the FileMaker community as a whole.”

That’s what noted FileMaker Server and security expert and FileMaker Pro custom solution developer Steven H. Blackwell will tell FileMaker Pro developers and IT personnel at the 14th annual FileMaker DEVCON’s “Effective and Reliable FileMaker Security” session meeting Thursday morning August 13th at the Hilton Hotel in San Francisco.

Noting that the purpose of database security is to “…enhance and enable the preservation of Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of digital information assets,” Blackwell urged those at the session to discover, adopt, and follow Best Practices for FileMaker security.

“Best Practices are an indication of performance of due diligence and not a guarantee of so-called perfect security,” Blackwell also noted. “Make yourself a hard target; don’t leave yourself as a soft one along with others similarly exposed,” he urged.

Blackwell also reminded the developers and IT managers that security is not a one-time check-off. He characterized the FileMaker security process as an iterative, on-going one that requires constant monitoring.

Blackwell, a FileMaker Business Alliance Platinum Member, is President & CEO of Alexandria VA based Management Counseling Services. He is the author of FileMaker Security: The Book [http://www.filemakersecurity.com] and is also the author of the 87 module, 7 hour FileMaker Security Video Tutorial from VTC, Inc. [http://www.vtc.com/products/FileMaker-Security-tutorials.htm].

FileMaker Pro is a desktop database application system for Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Macintosh OS X. It and the companion FileMaker Server are both developed by FileMaker, Inc. of Santa Clara, CA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Apple, Inc. {NASDAQ: AAPL}. Currently shipping versions are FileMaker® Pro 10 and FileMaker® Server 10.

The FileMaker DEVCON is the annual professional conference of FileMaker developers, FileMaker corporate users and in-house developers, and supporting IT personnel.
