evan_panagiotopoulos Posted October 16, 2001 Posted October 16, 2001 Well, let's see. I will be developing a pretty straight forward application for my school district. We are talking very basic stuff. Will the version 3.0 be able to satisfy our needs? Where can I get a book on this version? Thanks, Evan P.
Vaughan Posted October 16, 2001 Posted October 16, 2001 The development work is done with the FileMaker Pro client program (or the Developer version, which is really just the client with a few extra tools). FM Server is used to HOST the files once they are finished so that other people can access them. If you want to use FM Server 3, you need to do the development in either FMP 3.0v6, 4.0v3 or 4.1v3. Server 3 is not compatible with FMP 5.0 or later. All the people using the databases need to have a copy of FMP on their machine as well. The challenge is that you cannot buy new copies of old versions. For this reason alone you might find it better to ditch FM Server 3 (sell it on eBay, it's in demand) and go to FMP 5.5.
