Newbies strippi Posted December 5, 2001 Newbies Posted December 5, 2001 Hi all! Some days ago I've installed FM Server 5.5 onto my MacOS 9.2.1 G4 and it worked (and it's working) fine.. A couple o f day ago I would like to test the FMS X version, so I rebooted my G4 from the X partition (a HFS Extended...) I've installed FMS acting like "root" and Administrator but when I've lauched FMS and started the server, FMS stops services and I found this error in the event.log: "TCP/IP network initialization failed; the TCP/IP address is already in use or an addressed could not be obtained." (Exactly as documented in the help!) Infact the FMS Networking Tab shows an empty/dimmed <Preferred IP Address> pop-menu. I tried to force the IP, editing the PREFIPADDR parameter of the "fmserver.conf" file and even editing the USEPREFIPADDR (both ON/OFF) but with no solution. FMS still ignores the IP I have written and still shows the empty/dimmed IP pop-menu. Then I've created a dedicated address in Network pane: nothing!!! Obviously the TCP/IP works fine with all the other IP based applications: Explorer, mail, FTP, telnet, FileMakerPro 5.5 etc... Can anybody give me a suggestion? TYVM /Steve
Steven H. Blackwell Posted December 5, 2001 Posted December 5, 2001 You aren't trying to run both the "classic" version and the OS X version simultaneously are you?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted December 5, 2001 Posted December 5, 2001 I might also mention that the IP address will be grayed out if you have only one NIC card on the machine. OAM
Newbies strippi Posted December 6, 2001 Author Newbies Posted December 6, 2001 Yes, I've supposed this -you can't make a choice if you have only one IP address)-, but: 1 - why does not start the hosting of database ? 2 - why, if I configure a multi IP configuration over the same nic, doesn't let me FM to choice my preferred IPADDRS? Let me suppose I need to downgrade MacOS X (back to 10.1)..... /Ste
Steven H. Blackwell Posted December 7, 2001 Posted December 7, 2001 Perhaps OS X doesn't allow multiple IP address on the same machine. I think that the core issue though is that the service won't start. You may have to disinstall the FM Server 5.5 and then do a reinstall being sure that the your have logged on as root. OS X reamins a new and challenging mystery in many ways, and it's going to stay that way for a while yet I'd say. OAM
Newbies strippi Posted January 17, 2002 Author Newbies Posted January 17, 2002 I've solved the problem thanks to MacOS X 10.1.2 In a new post the next troubles: "Automatically start-up FMServer at boot" /Steve
