FileMaker server on Linux problem

Featured Replies

Hi, i;ve successfully installed FMP Server 5.5 on our Linux server but I'm getting a error mesage when I try to start it.

It says: Error opening log file: Permission denied

Now, I've gone and made sure the privs on /var/log/fmserver are ok and the directory is writable. Since there is no log file in there to start with I created Events.log via touch and set the ownership and privs correctly but still the same problem. I've also gone and commented out the log directory variable in the fmserver.conf file to see if I could turn off loggin. Still no go.

Finally I've removed FMP Server and reinstalled and still get the same problem...

I'm at a loss here to figure out the problem. Can anyone explain what i'm missing?

P.S. I'm logged in as root. I was thinking of maybe setting the suid and/or the groupid to the /var/log/fmserver directory to see if that does the trick...

Well, I changed the user account that it runs under to "root" and it fires up.

Of course, i don't want to leave it like that because of security concerns but I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong...

What version of Linux? Just curious.

Have you tried setting FM Server to automatically start and stop? See the admin guide chapter nine available on www.filemaker.com.
