Hi!

I'm having performance problems an my database running on FMS9 OS X server 10.5.5.

The server has 20GB RAM and enough ressources for the ~20-25 clients that are using the database.

But - from time to time - a simple search over an indexed date field (~100k records) takes up to 1 minute.

This problem is mainly not only appearing in the backup time (what was my first thought) but at different random times.

Are there any known problems with this configuration?

You say server has 20 GB RAM? Are you sure about that? That seems high.

You may be experiencing some problems with indexing. You may need to rebuild the index on the searched field.

Yes, I'm sure about 20GB.

The search performance is quite good about 95% of the time and this problem is not limited to 1 field but occures with different fields.

20GB RAM is no problem with Leopard server.

  • 3 weeks later...

Compact the file. Turn indexing on and off on the field to reindex... Double check that indexing language is English.
