Newbies

I am new to FileMaker (using FM 9 Pro Advanced)and have a db that I brought over from Access. I am having problems knowing where to go with my report. I have customers that pass referrals to us. I need to create a report that shows how many referrals are given each month and the outcome of those referrals (25 poss outcomes). In Access, I did a pivot table based on the month and outcome. In FM, I "think" I need to create new fields. To get the month from my date field, I think I need a MonthName. Beyond that, I am confused. Is GetSummary the way to go? Also, I am having trouble with FM terminology. Would my breakfield be the customer?
