June 5, 201015 yr Can anyone help? Filemaker adds a single space before the field contents when I export text data. I'm exporting six fields for use in an Excel spreadsheet - running Filemaker Pro Advanced on a Mac running Mac OS X v 10.5.8 Each time I export, whether it's a Tab sep or a Comma sep file, Filemaker adds a single space before the field data. Strangely it doesn't do this for the fields from the first record, or for number fields, but all other text fields get a space added before them. Any suggestions as to how I can stop this gratefully received!

Thanks Vaughan - I am in fact using FMP 10 Advanced and Leopard (I hadn't updated my profile on the forum for some time!). I've tried a few more things and still can't get rid of the extra spaces! But thanks for the reply anyway.
June 6, 201015 yr I'd start by seeing whether the data has a leading space. I'd then open the export file in a text editor like Text Wrangler or BBedit (but definitely not excel) and seeing whether the character is a space or something else like a line feed. Lastly I'd check the FMP database for corruption: save a compressed copy, recover, etc.

It didn't show at all in Filemaker but was a bit of formatting picked up when the data was copied into Filemaker from Quark. I'm not sure what it is as it appears as a small solid rectangle within a small rectangular border, but shows as a paragraph return when I attempt to replace it in Word. Anyway I should be able to strip them all out by exporting to Word and importing back into Filemaker. Thanks for your interest and help.
